1. Carry a reusable water bottle
Mountain villages don't have recycling. Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation estimates 1M+ plastic bottles dumped in the region annually. Carry your own.
2. Pack out what you pack in
Every wrapper, every tissue. The mountains aren't your bin. Carry a ziplock.
3. Pick homestays over hotels
Money stays local. You get better food. The host's kids see tourism as a career, not an outside force. Book via local agents (we vet homestays we recommend).
4. Ask before photographing people
Especially elders, monks, and children. A smile and a question go far. Some monasteries forbid photos of deities — respect.
5. Use local guides
Not cheaper, but better. They know routes and carry safety gear. Indian Mountaineering Foundation certifies mountain guides.
6. Avoid flights over cars where possible
If you're already at altitude (Leh, Manali), stay. Skip the Pangong-Leh-Nubra race. Fewer km = less impact.
7. Leave no trace
This is a commandment, not a suggestion. Fire rings, graffiti, stones moved — all damage.
We operate this way
